Northeastern St. Louis County in northeastern Minnesota... * Until 145 PM CDT Wednesday. * At 1042 AM CDT Wednesday, trained weather spotters reported flash flooding across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Trained spotters reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Ely. Street flooding is being observed in the city of Ely. 6 to 12 inches of water was observed over roads. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In northeast Minnesota, St. Louis County. * WHEN...Until 115 PM CDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1029 AM CDT Wednesday, the public reported flooding in the warned area. Flooding is already occurring. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Overflowing poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 948 AM CDT Wednesday, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... This includes the Tribal Lands of the Red Cliff Band, the St. Croix Band in Burnett County, the Bad River Reservation, the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, the Fond du Lac Band and the Mille Lacs Band, Hinckley, Lena Lake and, East Lake areas. Other locations including the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and Madeline Island. * WHEN...Through Thursday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are forecast through early Thursday morning.
